Improving the Kingdom`s global trade connectivity is also a matter of improving the physical infrastructure that supports domestic and external trade. The NTP instructs the Ministry of Transport to improve transport infrastructure, including reducing the total amount of overdue projects from 60% to 25% by 2020. The government is also trying to co-ordnance the private sector to finance half of new rail projects and 70% of port development. In the meantime, efficiency gains are being sought in areas such as the average length of stay of containers in ports. Among the existing international gateways are the Islamic Port jeddah – the kingdom`s largest container port with a capacity of about 5m twenty feet per year – and the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, the country`s largest settlement on the east coast.
